What Goes into a Well-Oiled Machine?

There is a (true) story about a maintenance technician who visited a jobsite to follow up on a recent sale. The technician walked up to the operator of a newly purchased concrete dowel drill and asked him how it was going. He answered with a cringe-worthy statement:

It’s working great! It ran out of oil this morning and it’s still going!”

Check Before You Wreck

We can all predict the long-term effects of that kind of maintenance policy. Oil is the single most important factor in maintaining your concrete dowel drill. It can make or literally break your machine.

If the oil reservoir empties due to leakage or burn off, the motor will slow and the power will decrease until the lack of lubrication causes it to seize. The best way to prevent this is to get in the habit of checking your drill’s oil level every four hours. This will ensure your machine stays well lubricated and continues to perform at an optimal level day after day.

The Preferred Solution

In tandem with maintaining the proper oil level, be sure to use the right type of oil for your concrete drill. Taking shortcuts or using the wrong oil can put your engine and drill components in jeopardy.

E-Z Drill manufactures an oil specifically for use in concrete dowel drills. Rock Drill Oil is the precise viscosity needed for the drill to operate at maximum efficiency. It’s an advanced formulation designed to withstand the harsh conditions to which concrete drills are regularly subjected.

Beware of Substitutes

Using other oils in place of Rock Drill Oil, such as pneumatic tool oil or transmission fluid, can severely damage your concrete drill. Other oils will burn off quickly, and they contain synthetics that can damage hoses and O-rings.

Contact E-Z Drill directly if you don’t have access to Rock Drill Oil and need to find a temporary substitute. An E-Z Drill expert will be able to recommend an alternative that is safe for your concrete drill.
